Restaurant Review – Morito, Hackney Road

Since Samantha and Samuel Clark opened Moro restaurant on Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell in 1997, Londoners have made a beeline to enjoy their celebrated Spanish and North African influenced cooking. They introduced us to harissa, preserved lemons, sumac and the exotic spices of North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean years before anyone else. From the start, the restaurant baked its own sourdough (in a wood oven) and most of the dishes were cooked on a charcoal grill. It took a good 10 years for the rest of London to catch up. In 2010, the Clarks opened Morito next door, a small bar space serving mezze and tapas dishes where you could drop in without booking. Due to its success, they have now added a third jewel to their already glittering crown by opening a second and larger Morito restaurant on East London’s Hackney road.
