Food moments of 2014

The end of a year is always a good time for a round-up, so here are some of my most memorable encounters and enjoyable moments of eating, cooking and discovering the best ingredients of 2014…

Sea urchins in Oulidia, Morocco – the cold temperature of the sea greatly improves the flavour

Nectarine leaf and almond milk Panna Cotta – the leaves infused into the cream have a natural almond flavour

The largest white truffle I’ve ever held, let alone seen

Homemade taglierini – the best accompaniment to white truffle

Boiled eggs with anchovy toast soldiers – a match made in heaven – recipe in my forthcoming book Egg (out in March)

My wedding cake, made by the wonderful Claire Ptak of Violet Cakes

Proper carciofi Romana as served at dal Moro in Rome, eaten on my honeymoon

Our abundant agretti crop – we mainly ate it lightly blanched and covered in grated bottarga..

Fassone rib-eye steak. The best beef I have ever eaten

Finally… Christmas cake given to me by Sally Clarke of Clarke’s, London. No one makes it better.
